Nyabinghi priest Richie Spice continues to set a solid reggae foundation.
It’s been over a year since the release of his last album “In the Streets of Africa” now Richie Spice is set to launch “Gideon Boot” on May 13th. This album, produced by Bobby ‘Digital’ Dixon (who worked with Sizzla and new comer Jamelody), opens strong yet easy to listen to, with “Getting Harder” sang over ‘One For The Road’ riddim. Then transitions smoothly to “Babylon Falling” done over Nyahbinghi drums. The title track, “Gideon Boots”, done over Bobby D’s 2005 ‘Johnny Too Bad’ riddim, shows a sweet sounding yet aggressive Spice.
‘Gideon Boots’ continues with a predictability, like with all other reggae albums, with a ganja tune “Wrap Up A Draw” which fails to impress. Gentleman and Spice’s voices blend harmoniously while they deliver a gem with ” Let’s Go”. The album closes with two impressive tunes, “Di Plane Land, which is Spice’s current hit single and “The World Is A Cycle” done over Arif Cooper’s ‘Guardian Angle’.
In all, ‘Gideon Boots’ does not stand up to the success of ‘In The Street Of Africa’, but if you are a die-hard fan of Spice then this album is not a regrettable purchase.
