St Lucian singer/songwriter Cherry L is now releasing yet another sizzling hot single, “Fridayâ€. The dancehall track, created by the House of Wax’s super producer, Sherwinn “Dupes†Brice, highlights the exciting party atmosphere of any Friday night anywhere in the world. The singer’s last released single was “Like Thatâ€, a dramatic dancehall tune.
Born in 1984, Nelson Serieux aka Cherry L has been immersed in music ever since childhood when he began playing the violin, singing and performing with his local drama group. He is the seventh of eight children and a son of a music teacher. It is no surprise that today; Cherry L is definitely one of the hottest performers in St. Lucia where his tunes are constantly blowing up the charts.
He entered the music scene first in 2006 when his single “Breedâ€, a dancehall track produced by Shayne Ross, was introduced. That single led to many performances including being the opening act for Jamaican reggae star Gyptian. Cherry L’s other singles “Turn Me Loose†and “Like That†have further cemented his popularity in the music industry.
“Turn Me Loose†produced by Sherwinn “Dupes†Brice, was a male version of Beyonce’s “To The Left†and this became the male anthem in early 2007. The track spent five weeks in the top five and two weeks at number one at a local radio station and was in heavy rotation at the nightclubs. His reggae and dancehall rhythms are now being compared to the best out of Jamaica because his voice is smooth, addictive, poetic and powerful.
This new single “Friday†is a testament to Cherry L’s talent and his aptitude for the dancehall genre. The singer believes that “being unique and staying true to his talent will set him apart on the music sceneâ€. In the recent November/December 2007 issue of SHE Caribbean Magazine, Cherry L was named “The One to Watch†in the region’s entertainment scene because of his huge potential to take music to a whole other level. With his international flavour, good looks and crowd pleasing performances, Cherry L is certainly one to watch!
